Earth Day is an annual event celebrated globally on April 22nd to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970 and since then, it has become a global movement with more than 1 billion people in 192 countries participating in activities and events to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote sustainable practices.
Such sustainable practices include responsible investing through the lens of ESG-screened companies. The MVIS® Global Future of Food ESG Index (MVFOF) is a leading example of our next-generation ESG-based indexes. This index tracks the largest and most liquid companies in meat and dairy alternatives, organic foods, food flavors, or innovative agriculture technologies. MarketVector also utilizes a set of “alternative ESG impact scores” that offer additional information on a company level. Here, for example, we look at the “top-ranked food manufacturers by their ability to reduce food waste, their food safety scores, and their agricultural techniques and practices and how they contribute to the environment and climate change”.
Relevant thematic indexes, such as the MVIS® Global Circular Economy ESG Index (MVCIRC), can benefit from ESG overlays by ensuring that exposure is targeted to companies involved in sustainable practices.
